New Work - Mandalas

This year I have been focusing my attention on mandalas and other geometric compositions. I find the process of designing these motifs using mathematical principles mentally stimulating while the act of painting the final version relaxes me.

I recently completed these six paintings. Each are acrylic paint on an 8” x 8” wood board. I start by dividing a circle into equal parts (four, five, or six) as the basis for the designs. As you can see, I often like to incorporate flowers and other shapes inspired by nature.

I also painted these wooden blocks (approximately 3.25” x 3.25” each) experimenting with painting technique and different ways of dividing the circle.

As I continue to explore new designs through the use of geometry, I look forward to creating larger and more complicated designs.
